某一次Steven在給兩個小女兒洗澡時，心情有些急躁，因為當時很晚了，他又要趕著回工作室，但小朋友卻很愛玩，常常亂跑，甚至裝扮成小公主、灰姑娘，準備要去舞會。好不容易，終於她們都上床了，但還是吵吵鬧鬧的，一下想喝水、一下聽故事，最後Steven生氣了起來，命令她們快去睡覺。
不過，就在他很挫敗的關上房門時，突然想起已經20歲大的女兒Emily。時間過得好快，不知不覺中Emily已長大獨立了，這時，Steven好像被點醒一樣，明白自己無論有多忙，現在還能和這兩個幼小又頑皮的女兒相處，其實是多麼的寶貴。於是，他心中有了一個「灰姑娘」的靈感，因為當晚上12點一到，灰姑娘就必須離開，他應該好好珍惜和女兒現在相處的時間，所以「Cinderella」這首歌，就這樣寫了出來。
